Pasqual Gutiérrez and Raúl “RJ” Sanchez (CLIQUA) are a Mexican-American directing outfit who’ve had a phenomenal impact on global pop aesthetics – with their videos having amassed over 1.5 billion YouTube views.
Since joining forces to champion Latin American music through aesthetically arresting visuals, CLIQUA have become valued collaborators of the likes of Rosalía and Bad Bunny, as well as The Weeknd.
In the commercial realm, CLIQUA’s work for Apple Music ‘Usher with Future Usher’, Expedia ‘Local Lens: Koreatown’ and eBay ‘Keep Your Ride or Die Alive’ – in addition to eye-catching spots for the likes of Facebook, Nike, Puma, adidas and Wingstop – showcases their multimedia prowess. As does ‘¡Suerte!’, an innovative Apple iPhone-shot short about Mexican music and culture inspired by the traditional game of lotería.
The duo’s short film ‘Shut Up & Fish’ took the Sun Valley Film Festival’s top prize, won Best Narrative Short at the Atlanta Film Festival and NY Latino Film Festival. Independently, RJ’s short ‘Freak’, was created through the Anora x Kodak x NEON short film showcase presented by SBIFF and curated by acclaimed filmmaker Sean Baker. The film was awarded Best Narrative Short at this year’s Atlanta Film Festival. Additionally, RJ’s vérité-style ‘Barra Brava’ premiered at NYC Doc Fest 2025. This is adjacent to Pasquel finishing production on his debut feature ‘Serious People’ last year, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival and is currently streaming on MUBI.
