A.V. Rockwell
Renowned for shaping compelling films that speak to social issues, writer-director A.V. Rockwell’s debut feature ‘A Thousand and One’ (2023) claimed Sundance Festival’s Dramatic Grand Jury Prize and the Independent Spirit Awards Best First Feature Award, and saw her nominated for the DGA’s First Time Theatrical Feature category. The profoundly moving film (a New York Times ‘Critics Pick’) drew plaudits for spotlighting systemic inequalities via the poignant New York tale of love and survival, motherhood and gentrification.
After breaking through with the cult documentary series ‘Open City Mixtape’, A.V’s short ‘Feathers’ (Fox Searchlight) premiered at TIFF, and screened at Sundance and Telluride Festivals. Her commercial highlights include the launch film for Pharrell Williams and adidas’ ‘Black Ambition’ campaign; a Serena Williams-starring Super Bowl spot, and an Ad Council-commissioned Breast Health awareness campaign.
New Yorker A.V. is an advisor on Tribeca and CHANEL’s Women Filmmakers program.
