A veritable creative powerhouse, director, photographer, writer and creative director Ibra Ake has a stellar reputation for delivering arresting work across music, advertising, television and photography. An authentic artist, Ibra’s ideas are unfailingly original. Yet with an ear attuned to both mainstream and underground culture, and a killer eye for aesthetic impact – his projects connect with mass and niche audiences.
An executive producer and writer on the cult-hit Amazon series, ‘Swarm’, Ibra also directed two episodes which starred Billie Eilish as a cult leader. On TV phenomenon ‘Atlanta’, Ibra wrote several episodes across the show’s lifespan, notably helming the wildly comic instalment: White Fashion.
Commercially, Ibra’s director reel features engaging work for the likes of Spotify, Union and Nike for whom he’s shot two adverts: ‘Endless Repetition’ and ‘Play with Gratitude’. A Nigerian-American, his Jon Boyega-starring H&M spot broke boundaries by being presented almost entirely in Yoruba. And he’s also previously directed the adidas-sponsored content series, ‘Donald Glover Presents’.
A Grammy-award holder for his involvement in Childish Gambino’s ‘This Is America’, Ibra has creative directed multiple campaigns for the inimitable artist. Perhaps more notably, he directed three episodes of Beyoncé’s visual album ‘Black Is King’.
