Director, writer and photographer, Leo Leigh sculpts worlds that capture the eccentricities of his fictional and documentary characters. ‘Sweet Sue’ – his charming and ineffably British debut feature (Somesuch/SUMS Media for BBC Films), which premiered at Munich Film Festival, proved a 2023 indie-comedy highlight upon release by Curzon Cinemas and BFI Player.
Previously, Leo wrote and directed three well-received shorts, the BIFA-nominated ‘Mother’, ‘Sometimes Chinese’ for Channel 4 and ‘Rewind Britain’. He’s previously helmed ‘Free in the Knowledge’ for Thom Yorke’s The Smile as well as commercials for Alexander, A/D/O and Mini.
Leo’s career began at Vice films, where he made three hour-length documentaries. The last of these ‘Swansea Love Story’, a stark portrayal of the Welsh city’s teenage heroin epidemic, was picked up by CNN and heralded in the media for its sensitive and humane portrayal of often negatively stereotyped subjects.
